Internship Geospatial Analyst

Geospatial Analyst Interns

Switching to electric vehicles (EVs) is critical to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fighting climate change. Expanding EV charging infrastructure quickly is crucial to this transition. However, EV decision-makers often struggle to manage large amounts of geospatial data and collaborate with various stakeholders, leading to subpar site selection and investment decisions. This slows down the green transition and hinders EV adoption.

SurplusMap offers an interactive map designed for non-specialists, bringing all relevant geospatial data together in one place. Our platform helps decision-makers identify the best sites for EV chargers, ensuring high usage and effective stakeholder collaboration. This speeds up and improves the development of EV charging infrastructure, which is vital for the green transition.

The Role: Geospatial Analyst Intern

We are looking for GIS Analysts who will help run geospatial data projects focused on enhancing EV charging infrastructure and provide feedback on product development.

We seek high achievers who are driven, coachable, and eager to grow. We value fast learners, adaptable, and open-minded individuals, ready to take on new challenges and contribute to our innovative projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Run pilot projects with our selected customer base, including municipalities, energy companies, and charge point operators.

  • Provide feedback to our product development team.

  • Work together with our data science team.

Experience & Skills:

  • Ability to perform spatial analytics using tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS.

  • Recent graduates or students in the process of completing a master's degree in GIS-related fields (Data Science, Environmental Science, Geomatics, etc.).

  • Ability to work in teams and autonomously.

  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken). Norwegian and other European languages are a big plus.

  • Fast learners, open-minded, and adaptive to new business situations.

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft tools and Google Suite.

  • Norwegian working permit required.

Engagement:

  • Potential for follow-up roles as part-time during your studies or full-time team members if you have graduated.

  • Equity opportunities for suitable candidates.

Benefits:

  • Be part of an impactful start-up with vibrant ambitions and a clear direction.

  • Play a key role in our mission to optimize EV charging infrastructure worldwide.

  • Work on the most exciting EV infrastructure projects in Norway and Europe.

  • Join a multicultural team with international ambitions.

  • Collaborate with a passionate team dedicated to innovation and environmental sustainability.

  • Enjoy flexible working hours and locations.

  • Potential for growth and career development in a deep-tech company fostering the green transition.

  • Access to special projects with Google, the European Space Agency, and StartupLab.

  • Be coached by an experienced management team, helping you develop key skills.

DIVERSE INFO

Arbeidsgiver SurplusMap orgnr:
Kort om arbeidsgiver Introduction to SurplusMap
SurplusMap is on a mission to revolutionize the way we develop and optimize EV charging infrastructure. By leveraging advanced geospatial tools and machine learning models, we empower energy companies, local utilities, and charge point operators to make informed decisions about site selection and utilization prediction. This ensures the efficient and effective deployment of charging stations, addressing a critical need in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market. Our secret advantage is our ability to draw on Norway's leadership in EV infrastructure, combined with our collaborations with top-tier partners like Google and Bentley Systems, to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

The challenge we face is significant: the current pace of infrastructure development is insufficient to meet the future demands of the booming EV market. The market is highly fragmented, causing inconvenience for EV users and difficulties for energy companies and local utilities trying to optimize their investments. For instance, the EU mandates the installation of 6,000 new charging points per week by 2030, a target that is far from being met with the current rate of deployment. This gap presents a substantial opportunity for innovative solutions like SurplusMap to make a real difference.

At SurplusMap, we focus on ensuring our customers invest wisely. Our sophisticated, map-based software integrates geospatial data and machine learning algorithms to pinpoint optimal sites for new charging stations. This means our clients can invest in the right locations, install the ideal number of chargers, and maintain high utilization rates over time. By doing so, we help them maximize their investments and build a robust EV infrastructure network that meets the demands of the future.

We are driven by a vision of cleaner, more sustainable cities. Electric vehicles are crucial in reducing air pollution and creating healthier urban environments. However, the key to this transition lies in the efficient deployment of charging infrastructure that provides greater flexibility to the energy grid, allowing for more renewable energy sources to be integrated. At SurplusMap, we are passionate about facilitating this energy transition.

By optimizing EV charging infrastructure, we help accelerate the shift to cleaner energy, positively impacting both the environment and the communities we live in.

Join us in our mission to create a greener, more sustainable future through innovative technology and strategic planning. Together, we can drive the change needed to make our cities cleaner and our energy systems more resilient.
