Working as a psychologist in Norway

Psychiatric Center Fekjær in Norway

The 24-hour PHV unit treats patients aged 18-35 with severe psychiatric disorders, sometimes combined with addiction. The 24-hour TSB unit treats patients aged 18-26 with both an addiction disorder and a mental disorder. Fekjær offers active therapeutic treatment I beautiful surroundings, focusing on daily routines that include practical daily tasks, contact with animals, and outdoor activities.

The treatment is based on a psychodynamic understanding with relational inspiration and utilizes an eclectic treatment model that incorporates various approaches for individual issues. The institution has a psychodynamic base, emphasizing relational corrective experiences in a therapeutic context. The units are organized multidisciplinary, with a holistic view on both the individual and group processes.

The therapists actively participate in activities, training in new coping strategies and outdoor activities. Fekjær hosts students from various universities and colleges and is part of the National Network for Personality Disorders. Professional development for all our staff is crucial, and we encourage further education in mental health care, as well as specialization for our psychologists and physicians.

Fekjær has a wide range of disciplines on staff, including psychiatrists, specialists, psychologists, nurses, movement therapists, social workers. Most have advanced training in mental health care and relevant additional qualifications. We also have support staff interested in mental health care.

Due to the expansion described above, we are looking for:

  • Specialized psychologists

  • Psychiatric nurses

  • Social workers, preferably with specialization or experience in psychiatry and/or addiction care

  • Movement therapist/sports consultant

  • Cook

  • Administrative staff

We are looking for professional, positive, and hard-working colleagues who do not shy away from complex challenges. You put the patient at the center of your work and understand how demanding a process of change can be for a patient. Personal commitment to supporting the patient on their path to a better life is crucial. You have a good mood, perseverance, and enjoy an active life, including outdoor activities.

Experience in trauma, personality disorders, and psychoses is a plus, as is an interest in psychodynamics and group dynamics.

Hedalen is located in the Valdres region, about 120 kilometers from Oslo and the international airport Gardermoen. The psychiatric center Fekjær in Hedalen is set to significantly expand with twelve new places for patients with addiction, requiring an interdisciplinary approach/treatment.

Fekjær has over fifty years of experience in specialized psychiatric care, currently offering twenty places (mental health care: PHV). From January 1, 2025, an additional twelve places for interdisciplinary specialized addiction treatment (interdisciplinary specialized addiction treatment: TSB) will be added. There is also an outpatient clinic, and transitional housing on the premises, managed by its own foundation.
