We’re looking for an R&D Engineer in Power Electronics
What the job is about
We are seeking a motivated and innovative R&D Engineer specializing in Power Electronics to enhance our power converters R&D team. In this role, you will be instrumental in modeling, developing, and prototyping new topologies and control methods for high-frequency, kW-level power converters. Our power converter applications include industrial inductive heating and wireless inductive charging for electric vehicles.
This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on engineer passionate about advancing power electronics through impactful, hands-on development.
Key responsibilities
Power Converter Development
- Design, model, and prototype novel power converter topologies with an emphasis on reliability and efficiency.
Reliability Assessment
- Conduct in-depth reliability assessments of power semiconductor modules, ensuring long-term functionality.
Project Collaboration
- Contribute to R&D projects from concept to market and throughout the product improvement phases, working closely with cross-functional teams in sister companies.
Knowledge Sharing
- Document findings and transfer knowledge to the broader team through training sessions and user-friendly documentation.
Continuous Innovation
- Drive continuous improvements from the component level to full product implementations.
Education and experience
Educational Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field.
Core Expertise
- Proficient in most of the following:
- SiC transistor inverters
- GaN HEMT inverters
- Resonant converters
- Power converter control and estimation algorithms
- Digital implementation of current control algorithms
Technical Skills
- Experienced in power converter modeling and simulation using Matlab Simulink, Simba, Qorvo, Saber, or Plecs.
Hands-on Experience
- Demonstrated ability in building and testing power converter prototypes.
Collaborative Spirit
- Excellent team spirit and communication skills, with experience in working within multinational teams.
Preferred skills and additional experience
Proficiency in one or more of the following areas is a plus
- VHDL/Verilog and FPGA design
- ARM processor programming in C/C++
- Switch-Mode Power Supply (SMPS) design
- PCB design and analog electronics
Knowledge of:
- Material properties of insulation, coating, and transformer cores
- EMC/EMI standards and test methods for high-frequency, kW-level converters
