About the job
Are you ready to shape the future with your glassblowing skills?
Here, every day is filled with creativity and precision. As a scientific glassblower, you'll be crafting, tweaking, and repairing specialized glass equipment that's essential for groundbreaking research and innovative teaching at our university, as well as for a variety of external scientific partners.
In this position, you will work side by side with another glassblower, and you will also be a valued part of our dynamic team, spreading creative magic across our workshops. We collaborate closely, share knowledge, support one another, and find inspiration in each other’s work – and, of course, we enjoy lunch breaks together. Being part of our team also means collaborating with other engineering departments—like mechanical and electronics—to bring innovative equipment to life. This interdisciplinary synergy not only enhances your skills but also contributes to the exciting world of scientific discovery.
Based in modern facilities at Realfagbygget at Gløshaugen campus in Trondheim, you’ll find yourself in our faculty’s glass workshop—a place for craftsmanship and innovation. You’ll be working in a space outfitted with an array of machines and tools, specializing in both hot-working and cold-working techniques, including precision machining and cutting. You’ll have access to an extensive inventory featuring borosilicate and quartz tubing, flat glass, and a variety of other glass types. We also work with technical ceramics, precious metals, and a diverse range of material samples, ensuring that we can meet the most demanding and specialized project requirements.
The workshop is integrated within the faculty's administrative division for technical services, alongside the mechanical and electronics workshops. Your immediate leader will be Head of Research and Innovation Section.
Duties of the position
As a scientific glassblower in the faculty’s workshop, you will collaborate closely with customers to design and develop specialized apparatuses, provide solutions for their challenges, and craft equipment tailored to their specific needs and requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for modifying and repairing existing equipment. The diversity of tasks means you'll continuously be expanding your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Whether you’re designing a new piece from scratch or perfecting an existing one, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to grow and challenge yourself.
You must anticipate various other work tasks as needed within the faculty’s workshops.
