Knowledge development in a changing world – Science and technology towards 2030

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Job description

In the NFR-funded Norwegian Center of Excellence 'CanCell' we are interested in developing new methods to reprogram cancer cells. One line of research involves participation in a Nordic phase II clinical trial. Here, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patients are treated with low-dose azacitidine/venetoclax, and an important aspect of this trial involves in-depth characterization of the effects of the therapeutic agents. To better understand how the cancer cells and immune system is affected, we are currently using a combination of ex vivo drug screening and multiparameter flow cytometry method to be able to identify the various types of immune cells and cancer cells that are present in bone marrow and peripheral blood of AML patients. Several other analyses will also be performed, such as expression analysis of selected genes by qPCR, and cytokine measurements.

The candidate will contribute to the project by developing routines for analysis of large datasets obtained with multiparameter flow cytometry (over 40 cell surface markers). In parallel, we will perform microbiome analysis of patient samples. The candidate will use these methods to analyze complex datasets obtained from multiple patients, and correlate this information with various patient characteristics to determine disease progression and outcome.

The work will be conducted in the Cancer Molecular Medicine group headed by Dr. Enserink, which is physically located at the Radium Hospital.
