Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Biology of Breast Cancer
A 2-year position as postdoctoral researcher is available at the Department of Medical Genetics, Oslo University Hospital in the period 1.April 2025 – 31.March 2027. The position will be associated with the “Cancer Genome Variation” and “Cancer Biology in Silico”.
Your physical working location will be at the Department of Medical Genetics, Section for Research and Development. Early 2027, the Department will move to the ''Life Science building'', providing the applicant the exciting opportunity to work in Norway’s largest and most modern research building.
The Department of Medical Genetics at Oslo University Hospital is Norway’s largest medical genetics department with over 200 employees. The department is responsible for diagnostics of rare and inherited diseases, and runs a national research infrastructure for high-throughput DNA sequencing at the Norwegian Consortium for Sequencing and Personalized Medicine (www.norseq.org). The research section in the department has 7 research groups (www.ous-research.no/meg/) working in various fields of medical genetics, including breast cancer, the genetics of autoimmune, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders, epigenetics causes of disease, as well as groups focusing on bioinformatics.

Job description
The position will be linked to a project funded by the Norwegian Research Council, entitled “Decoding the Cancer Stem Cell Niche in Triple-Negative”. The candidate will be part of the project group ''Cancer Biology in Silico'' led by Chloé B. Steen, with strong collaborations with researchers at Oslo University Hospital, University of Oslo, and Stanford University in California, USA. If of interest, the position may include a research stay abroad.
Qualifications and experience
PhD with a topic in one of the following areas completed or close to completion (thesis submitted prior to starting the position): bioinformatics, computational biology, cancer biology, immunology, molecular biology or similar, is required.
Experience in the following topics:
- Broad bioinformatics experience with working with genomics/transcriptomics data is required.
- Working proficiency in appropriate programming languages and software (eg. R, Python) is required.
- Analyzing large scale transcriptomics datasets, in particular single cell data and/or spatial resolution data will be considered an advantage.
Personal qualities:

- Ability to be inventive and to present novel ideas in method development, data analysis and interpretation.
