AutoStore is hiring a new Mechanical Product Engineer

As a Mechanical Product Engineer you will join AutoStore’s growing mechanical team within our Research & Development department. We are looking for a dedicated engineer who will contribute to our development expertise with a special focus on plastic parts, including idea development, research, design, tooling, sampling, testing and release. You will also strengthen our Bin Portfolio team which is responsible for the entire product development and life cycle process of our AutoStore storage containers (Bin). 

In this role we can offer a varying “hands on” engineering job in an exciting, competent, and good working environment. The mechanical and Bin Portofolio team is a supportive and cooperative team where you will get the opportunity to participate and grow among others as a specialist within the field of plastic parts and design of AutoStore bins being sold across the world.

This position reports to the R&D Manager Mechanics and the PPO R&D Bin. You will work from AutoStore’s head office and test facilities in Nedre Vats, near Haugesund/Norway. We value flexibility and we offer a 60/40 home office agreement. 

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Product Engineer you will have varied and interesting days where you will contribute to all processes related to our plastic parts and the Bins modules (containers). You will be a part of the development process from start-to-finish. 

Some of the responsibilities include

  • mechanical Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Service, and Mass production
  • product and material approval testing including design, setup, and usage of test equipment.
  • taking part in the research and development of new products  
  • working with tools and software such as Python, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), 3D printers or 3D scanners 
  • 3D CAD, 2D Documentation, Tolerance analysis, FEA and FMEA simulations/analysis as part of the product design process 
  • prototyping and cooperation with external development partners
  • prepare basis for documentation and manuals
  • troubleshooting and root cause analysis as part of product error handling and continuous product improvement

Qualifications and personal qualities

We are looking for a development engineer with a relevant education from fields such as mechanical, product design and/or process engineering. The right candidate is interested in the design of plastic parts and has experience with related tooling and production methods. English is the working language in AutoStore, so solid language skills in English, both written and oral, is a prerequisite. 

It would be advantageous if you 

  • have experience with tool such as 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) and FEA (Ansys, Abacus) 
  • have experience from working with plastic parts, injection molding, tooling and 3D printing
  • have knowledge about creating 2D production drafts with relevant GD&T
